Whitworth education professor Barbara Sanders appointed interim provost

Whitworth University President Beck A. Taylor announced Jan. 27 the appointment of Whitworth Professor of Education Barbara Sanders to interim provost of the university, effective May 28. In the meantime, Sanders will serve as senior associate provost to Michael Le Roy, Whitworth's current provost and executive vice president, who was named president-elect of Calvin College (Mich.) earlier this month. Le Roy will move into Calvin's presidency this summer.

Whitworth named a "Best Christian Workplace" by national survey

Whitworth University has been named a "Best Christian Workplace" among higher-education institutions based on a national survey of employees at Christian businesses and nonprofit organizations. The 22 Best Christian Workplaces for 2012 were announced Jan. 5. This marks the third time in the past decade that Whitworth has participated in the survey and been recognized as a Best Christian Workplace.

Heritage Month 2012 to explore "Whitworth in the '70s"

Events marking university's 122nd anniversary to include gospel concert, film festival, and lecture on "Expo '74 and the Transformation of Spokane"

Each February, Whitworth commemorates its founding on Feb. 20, 1890, with a month-long celebration. Heritage Month 2012 will kick off Feb. 2 with the university's annual Founder's Day Convocation, when students, faculty and staff gather to remember Whitworth's past and dedicate themselves to building upon that legacy in the coming year. Other focal points of Heritage Month 2012, which is themed, "Whitworth in the '70s," will include the fourth annual Leonard A. Oakland Film Festival Feb. 16-18, a gospel explosion performance Feb. 10, and a Feb. 22 lecture, "Expo '74 and the Transformation of Spokane."

Richard Mandeville appointed Whitworth's new vice president for student life

Whitworth University President Beck A. Taylor announced Tuesday the appointment of Whitworth's associate dean of students Richard Mandeville to vice president for student life and dean of students. Mandeville will bring 22 years of experience supporting and engaging Whitworth students to his new role, effective July 1.

Whitworth athletic training study abroad trip to Japan

Whitworth's athletic training program offers a study abroad seminar in Japan, where students perform a comparative anaylsis of Eastern and Western philosophies of athletic health care.
