Whitworth once again featured by Colleges of Distinction as a leader in education excellence

August 15, 2014

For the sixth time in seven years, Whitworth University has been named a top school in the country on CollegesofDistinction.com, an online guide that takes a fresh look at colleges and universities by appealing to students’ unique and varied interests. Based on the opinions of guidance counselors, educators, and admissions professionals, Colleges of Distinction honors colleges excelling in key areas of educational quality.

“We are thrilled to receive the Colleges of Distinction recognition because it affirms values that have always been central to the Whitworth student experience,” says Greg Orwig, Whitworth’s vice president for admissions and financial aid. “While rankings can capture some of the quantitative measures of Whitworth’s academic excellence, the Colleges of Distinction designation highlights important facets that can never be conveyed through numbers, such as our holistic approach to admissions, our vibrant and engaged campus community, and the quality of our faculty-student interaction.”

Whitworth qualified as a College of Distinction through demonstrating excellence in four distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes. The goal of Colleges of Distinction is to provide students, counselors, and parents with information about colleges and universities that excel in these four areas.

“Whitworth University is a true College of Distinction," says Tyson Schritter, executive editor of Colleges of Distinction. “With its beautiful campus and 30 international study-abroad options, Whitworth is a wonderful place for students to learn who they are and what they want to be. Students are challenged with both Christian and secular scholarship and become compassionate, dedicated thinkers.”

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of 3,000 students, offers 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
