Whitworth dance and theatre programs perform in Broadway Unbound May 8

April 27, 2015

Whitworth Theatre will present its annual "Broadway Unbound" showcase performance on May 8 at 7:30 p.m. on Stage II in Cowles Auditorium. Admission for this event is $3. An annual highlight for Whitworth’s theatre department, "Broadway Unbound" draws hundreds of people from Spokane and Whitworth to witness one of the most visually and musically exciting performances of the year.

This year, participating classes involve Jazz II, Ballet II, and Musical Theatre Dance. The audience will experience three pieces that were presented at the American College Dance Association Conference at the University of Northern Colorado this March. Two of these pieces were choreographed by students of Whitworth’s dance minor program, Brooke Grissom, ’15, and Danica Beschta, ’16. Additionally, the Acting I and II and Performance Theory classes will also be performing.

“We’re extremely excited to show off the hard work that goes into preparing this event,” Whitworth Dance Program Director Karla Folkins Parbon says. ”This event exposes the Whitworth and Spokane communities to the exceptional work and talent of our student performing artists, as well as to the skills of the theatre and dance program faculty.”

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
