Whitworth Yearbook Staff Wins Two National Awards

January 5, 2018
Whitworth University is proud to announce the Natsihi yearbook staff has been awarded two American Scholastic Press Association awards.

Natsihi was selected as the “Most Outstanding University Yearbook for 2017” in this year’s Annual Review and Contest Awards. It also received a first-place award among universities with a student population of 1,701-2,500.

“It is my distinct pleasure to work alongside our editors and staff each year in the creation of this annual celebration of all things Whitworth,” says Tad Wisenor, assistance vice president for institutional advancement and yearbook adviser.  “Perhaps most gratifying is the fact that our students represent so many different departments across the campus. Last year’s editors majored in journalism, English, graphic design, biology (pre-med), and business administration.”

The Natsihi staff, comprised of Whitworth students, was also honored last fall with a second-place “Best in Show” award from the Associated Collegiate Press.

Natsihi has been documenting the education of Whitworth students since 1914. Its mission is to annually portray and preserve the happenings, personalities and memories of Whitworth University and the influences of the world beyond by combining elements of photography, copy writing and design. Natsihi (pronounced “Not-See-Hee”) is a Spokane Native American word that means “Among the Pines.”

The ASPA is a nationally recognized publication contest. It is based in College Point, N.Y., and features newspapers, magazines and yearbooks from each state.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
