Whitworth University Appoints Stacey Kamm Smith to Key External Relations Position

February 8, 2022

Whitworth University President Scott McQuilkin announced the appointment of Stacey Kamm Smith ’86 as vice president for institutional advancement on Feb. 7.

Smith had most recently served as interim vice president for institutional advancement while McQuilkin filled the role of interim president following President Beck A. Taylor’s departure in May 2021. She has been senior associate vice president for institutional advancement at Whitworth for 25 years.

“Stacey led the major gifts team, contributed in hugely significant ways to the university’s two comprehensive fundraising campaigns, was a key voice on the institutional advancement leadership team, and recently assumed oversight of The Whitworth Foundation,” McQuilkin says. “I am immensely grateful for how Stacey has led institutional advancement over these past eight months and for how she has also been a superb contributor to the president’s cabinet. I am pleased to know these things will continue, now with permanence.”

Smith holds a bachelor’s degree from Whitworth and master’s degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. Before returning to Whitworth in 1996, she was the director of development at the University of Southern California. She says coming back to her alma mater and establishing her career at Whitworth has been a true blessing.

“Being a part of the Whitworth family, first as a student and then as member of the institutional advancement team, has been one of the greatest joys of my life,” Smith says. “I am honored to serve in this new capacity and look forward to working with our outstanding faculty and staff to further Whitworth’s strategic goals.”

In her permanent role, Smith will oversee institutional advancement activities including fundraising, marketing & communications, and broad and meaningful relationship-building with donors, prospective donors, sponsors, alumni, volunteers, city and community representatives, and the general public.
