Whitworth choirs to present 2015 Christmas Festival Concert, “Ring Out Your Joy: Peace to the World is Given”

The 2015 Whitworth University Christmas Festival Concert, “Ring Out Your Joy: Peace to the World is Given,” will take place in Seattle Dec. 5 and 6, and in Spokane Dec. 12 and 13. The concerts will feature more than 120 student-musicians, including members of the Whitworth Choir, the Whitworth Women’s Choir, the Whitworth Men’s Chorus and the Whitworth Chamber Singers, as well as student instrumentalists and narrators. “This marks the 13th consecutive Christmas Festival Concert I will have directed at the university, and I am as excited about this concert as any I have served at Whitworth,” says Marc A. Hafso, professor of music and director of choral activities at Whitworth. “I encourage all who have yet to experience this unique presentation by our gifted and passionate student-singers and instrumentalists to attend and see why it remains the traditional beginning of Advent and Christmas celebrations for so many.”

The concert theme, ““Ring Out Your Joy: Peace to the World is Given,” will be elevated through choral works, readings, and traditional carols for audience and choirs. Presented without interruption, the concert will be concluded by candlelight.

Seattle 
Saturday, Dec. 5, at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m.

A limited number of tickets may also be available for purchase at the door prior to each concert.

The Whitworth Choir and Whitworth Chamber Singers will perform under the direction of Hafso and Deborah Hansen, associate director of choral activities and chair of the music department. Hansen will also direct the Whitworth Women’s Choir. Scott Miller, director of voice studies, will direct the Whitworth Men’s Chorus. John Bodinger will serve as organist. Mary Trotter and Geoffrey Rich will serve as accompanists. 

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of 3,000 students, offers 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
