Whitworth University Ranked No. 3 Best Christian University in U.S. by Christian Universities Online
May 9, 2018
Whitworth University is proud to announce it has been ranked the third best Christian university in the United States by Christian Universities Online.
CUO is an independent online resource for prospective students and their families researching Christian higher education. The site lists rankings and reviews of the best Christian colleges and universities, information about Christian scholarships and financial aid, and other resources to help students find the right Christian school.
“We believe our Christian mission calls us to pursue excellence in all of our endeavors – whether it’s the quality of our academic programs and facilities or the level of service and personal attention we provide to our students,” says Greg Orwig, Whitworth’s vice president of admissions and financial aid. “A high ranking by Christian Universities Online both validates those commitments and recognizes that Whitworth is successfully achieving them. More importantly, we hope it helps more students to see that they can choose a Christian university without sacrificing any measures of academic quality and rigor.”
To be eligible for this ranking, a college or university must either be a member of the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) or be eligible for membership. The scoring was based on the following factors:
• Faculty-to-student ratio
• Percent of full-time beginning undergraduates receiving grant or scholarship aid
• Selectivity
• Overall retention rate
• Overall graduation rate
Weights were assigned to each of these categories and an overall score was calculated. The 2016-17 ranking includes 50 colleges and universities. Here are the top five:
1. College of the Ozarks
2. Wheaton College
3. Whitworth University
4. Messiah College
5. Grove City College
Whitworth also made Christian Universities Online’s list of Top 50 Christian Colleges and Universities for Veterans. For a complete listing of all the rankings, click here.
In April, Whitworth University ranked No. 4 on the College Consensus 2018 list of the Best Christian Colleges and Universities in the nation. The university also placed No. 99 on the “2018 Best Colleges and Universities” list and No. 3 on the College Consensus “2018 Best Regional Universities in the West” list.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
