Whitworth University Welcomes Glass Artist Nathan Sandberg
January 28, 2019
The Whitworth University Art Department and the university’s Bryan Oliver Gallery are proud to present the work of artist Nathan Sandberg. All are invited to the opening reception in the Bryan Oliver Gallery on Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 5-6 p.m., followed by Sandberg’s lecture from 6-7 p.m. in Lied 102. The event is free.
Sandberg is an artist and educator based in Portland, Ore. His primary material is glass, although his installations commonly make use of other materials such as wood, metal and concrete.
After working in the research & education department at Bullseye Glass Co. for eight years, Sandberg started Nathans LLC in 2012 and has established himself as one of the top kiln-glass educators teaching today.
“It’s no secret the world around us is changing at an increasingly quick rate,” Sandberg says. “In past works, I have appreciated the physical changes by documenting different aspects of our built environment. Currently, by creating panes within which a viewer can get lost, and spend a bit of time disengaged, I aim to distract viewers from the intangible, much less attractive aspects of our complex world.”
Sandberg’s exhibit, titled Currently, opens Feb. 5 and will run through March 22. For more information, please visit whitworth.edu\art.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
