Whitworth Office of Church Engagement Invites Teens to Worship Workshop
December 18, 2019
The Whitworth Office of Church Engagement will hold a two-day Youth Worship workshop, Feb. 7-8, 2020, for high school students who are passionate about worshipping God and who would like to lead others.
Students will take part in several sessions on topics including how to study Scripture for worship leaders, how to worship outside comfort zones, and techniques for playing musical instruments and singing hymns.
The workshop will be led by Professor of Music and Director of Campus Worship Ben Brody, and Campus Pastor Lauren Taylor and Whitworth student worship leaders.
“Youth Worship is a great opportunity for high school students to learn more about leading worship from Whitworth faculty and student leaders,” Brody says. “Students will come away with new insights into why worship is important, as well as new skills in their instrument (or voice) and in leading rehearsals and learning new songs. What could be better than spending a weekend hanging out with others who are passionate about worshipping God together?”
Whitworth musicians will lead worship services and assist in teaching sessions.
“This workshop gave me tools to lead worship with thoughtfulness, excellence and confidence,” says Emma Thackston ’20, a past Youth Worship participant and current leader of a campus worship team. “I appreciated the opportunity to come alongside other young leaders as we reoriented ourselves toward God’s mission and our calling in the world of worship.”
The workshop is part of OCE’s Calling Communities program. Early registration is $30 until Jan. 24; $40 after Jan. 24. To register and learn more about the workshop, click here.
Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
