Launched in 2002 by the Northwest Leadership Foundation, in Tacoma, Wash., Act Six seeks to develop urban and community leaders to be agents of transformation on campus and in their home communities. This fall, 139 students will attend eight Northwest colleges and eight Midwest colleges as part of the Act Six program.
Other institutions receiving Act Six Scholars this year include Gonzaga University, George Fox University, Heritage University, Northwest University and Pacific Lutheran University.
The schools will provide full-tuition, full-need scholarships over four years.
Act Six alumni continue their leadership once they step foot into their communities. Eighty-one percent of Act Six Scholars earn their bachelor’s degrees within six years, nearly double the rate for low-income, first-generation students nationwide. More than two-thirds of the program’s graduates are working or serving back in their home communities.
