Whitworth University Launches Institute of Leadership for Rising Career Professionals

June 2, 2021

Whitworth’s School of Business is pleased to announce the launch of its Institute of Leadership. This valuable opportunity for ambitious professionals with a passion for leadership is made possible, in part, by a large grant from founding sponsor Northwest Farm Credit Services.

The Institute is designed to prepare and empower high-potential individuals to make innovative and sustainable impacts in their positions of leadership. It is guided by the foundational principles of gratitude, humility and service. The Institute of Leadership harnesses the strength and collaborative power of business and community leaders to create a connected, passionate and continuously educated network of leader-citizens.

This dynamic reinvention of leadership training is built upon an intensive retreat model, engaging participants in a three-part series of offsite weekend retreats located in scenic locations along the West Coast. At the end of the experience each participant will earn nine graduate credits and a Graduate Certificate in Comprehensive Leadership from an AACSB accredited business school making this experience unique on the West Coast. The nine credits can also directly be applied to any graduate degree in the School of Business.

“The Whitworth Institute of Leadership is an intensive educational regimen that thrives in the incredible intersection of deep business acumen, strong work ethic and a passion for leadership development,” says Kevin Parker, Institute of Leadership chair and Whitworth visiting professor. “The curriculum is challenging and facilitated by Ph.D. and Ivy League professors along with CEOs from our region’s top companies. We are thrilled at this opportunity to develop courageous leaders of character.”

The series will explore the history of leadership theory and practice – from classical to contemporary – and collaborate to develop a plan for personal and professional growth. Over the course of one year, participants will have the opportunity to engage in three destination retreats and receive over 75+ hours of business leadership training. Retreats will include facilitated discussion, group dinners, seminar readings, guest speakers and an evening social.

Admission to the 2021-22 class will be limited. The first round of applications will be by invitation only. Applications for the Class of 2023 will open in fall 2021. For more information on how to apply visit www.whitworth.edu/instituteofleadership
