Whitworth University Named Top-Ten Military Friendly School by Viqtory Media

March 8, 2022

Whitworth University is proud to announce it has been named a 2022-2023 Top-Ten Military Friendly® School by Viqtory Media, publisher of G.I. Jobs®, STEM Jobs SM and Military Spouse. This is the sixth consecutive year Whitworth has been recognized by Viqtory, but the first time it has been ranked the No. 1 school in the top 10 category of “private schools not offering a doctorate.”

“It’s an absolute honor to be recognized as a top 10 school,” says Phil Labrie, Whitworth’s assistant director of military & veterans outreach. “While I get the privilege to oversee our veteran programs here at Whitworth, I recognize ‘it takes an army’ and support from the leadership, staff and faculty to get to where we are today.”

In the past year, Labrie noted, Whitworth leadership and faculty approved a new agreement that allows Whitworth students to enroll in Air Force ROTC classes offered on Washington State University’s Pullman campus. This program is in addition to the long-standing Army ROTC program Whitworth offers in partnership with Gonzaga University. Last fall, the university dedicated a 3,000-square-foot facility on campus and $25,000 for renovations to establish the new Military & Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC).

“I’m grateful to work for a university and with colleagues who value and support the brave men and women who serve this great country in our armed forces,” Labrie says.

Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation were evaluated using both public data sources and responses from a proprietary survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2022-23 survey with 665 earning special awards for going above the standard.

Methodology, criteria and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly® Advisory Council of independent leaders in the higher education and military recruitment community. Final ratings were determined by combining the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of the institution’s ability to meet thresholds for student retention, graduation, job placement, loan repayment, persistence (degree advancement or transfer), and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.

Whitworth is an approved university to serve veterans and their family members who are eligible for educational benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, including under the Post-9/11 GI Bill, Yellow Ribbon, Montgomery GI Bill, Veterans Educational Assistance, Survivors & Dependents Assistance, and Military Tuition Assistance.
