Whitworth Names Kristiana Holmes as Director of Health Services
Holmes has an extensive background in the healthcare industry, specifically in university settings. She most recently served as the director of health and counseling services at Gonzaga University and helped lead the institution through the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to that position, Holmes was the interim co-chair, nurse practitioner director and assistant professor for the Department of Graduate Nursing at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.
“Kristiana brings a high level of expertise to this role,” says Rhosetta Rhodes, vice president for student life & dean of students. “She is a nurse practitioner and has a doctorate in nursing practice. Kristiana has successfully served students during the pandemic including by sharing leadership for the COVID Response Team. Her expertise includes building partnerships with the Spokane Regional Health District and the Washington State Department of Health.”
Holmes is also well-acquainted with Whitworth, having been the director of health services from 2010-15.
“It might sound cliché, but being back at Whitworth University is like coming home,” Holmes says. “Whitworth has continued to move forward and do significant things to support its students and grow and adapt within the challenges of higher education. I am pleased to rejoin these endeavors and help advance the health and well-being of our students.”
As director, Holmes is responsible for the strategic, financial and budgetary leadership and management of the student health center. She leads a team of healthcare professionals and support staff who oversee and administer the delivery of campus-based community health services. Her duties also include overseeing program quality management, risk management, regulatory compliance, resource management and professional development activities for the center.
Holmes received her doctor of nursing practice and bachelor of science in nursing from the University of North Dakota. She earned a master of science in nursing from the University of Mary in North Dakota.
