Whitworth to Present Distinguished Ministry Leadership Award to Rev. Sheryl Kinder-Pyle
Kinder-Pyle is the executive presbyter of Presbytery of the Inland Northwest. In her dozen years of service there she has been the chief administrator helping to lead churches through times of significant change. She has also spent time supporting six churches that serve Nez Perce tribal members and Christian groups in the Spokane community like Side By Side and Growing Neighbors.
Kinder-Pyle and her husband, Scott, first came to Spokane in the late 1990s to serve in ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Spokane. Sheryl was the senior high minister and also started small group and singles ministries at the church. The pair then moved to Ohio and Pennsylvania. They returned to Spokane in 2006 when Scott started Latah Valley Presbyterian Church.
Mindy Smith, director of the Whitworth Office of Church Engagement, says of Sheryl Kinder-Pyle, “Her encouragement of young pastors and their dreams for spreading the gospel in new ways has been an inspiration and reminder to so many of us.”
Also during convocation, Gregor Thuswaldner, executive vice president and provost, will deliver the Convocation address, “Still,” Rhosetta Rhodes, vice president of student life, will announce the winner of the Whitworth’s Founder’s Day Award and Professor Emeritus of History Dale Soden will pay tribute to two Whitworth alumni, Robert Ruby and Anna Schowengerdt.
The event will be held in Cowles Auditorium at 11 a.m. For those who cannot attend convocation in person, the livestream can be accessed here.
