Students Return to Whitworth University for 2024 Fall Semester
Move-In Day, for those new to Whitworth, will be Saturday, Aug. 31. Residence halls will open at 9 a.m. Returning students will move in on Monday, Sept. 2.
The Class of 2028 has 544 first-year students. This is close in size to last year’s incoming class and 20 percent larger than two years ago.
Vice President for Enrollment Management Josh Hibbard attributes the continued rebound in enrollment to the extreme care shown by all members of the admissions and financial aid teams as they worked to accommodate students following the nationwide delay in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) launch. He also says Whitworth’s faculty members and coaches played a significant role in recruiting students.
“So many of our faculty members and coaches took the time to meet with prospective students and their families when they made campus visits,” Hibbard says. “More than 1,100 students completed a campus visit, and this seems to have made a big impact on their decisions to attend Whitworth.”
Thirty-six percent of incoming first-year students are from Black, Indigenous and People of Color communities, making this class the most diverse in the university’s history. Nearly 200 students are first-generation students, the first to attend college in their families. Also, 220 incoming first-year and transfer students are student-athletes – the highest number in the last five years.
This incoming fall class represents students from 17 states and 20 countries.
The most popular majors chosen by members of the incoming class include education, business management, engineering, pre-nursing and psychology.
