Whitworth LEARN Offers Three New Online Programs to Celebrate National Entrepreneurship Month

October 23, 2024

November is National Entrepreneurship Month, and Whitworth LEARN is launching three new online programs designed to support entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Managing Innovation – Managing Innovation is a six-week course that explores innovative ways to design new products and services. Participants will gain strategic insights into meeting customer needs and driving growth. This class will allow registrants to be as creative as they want while they lead brainstorming, ideation and prototyping activities, transforming concepts into actionable plans. Throughout this course, they’ll use proven methodologies like the minimum viable products framework and the Build, Measure, Learn feedback process. Whether you are just starting with a new business venture, are an early to midcareer professional who wants to be able to add greater strategic value to your organization or are someone looking to assist their company when it comes to launching new products or services, this class is for you.

Instructor Dan Mahoney, senior adjunct MBA professor at Whitworth, is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years of experience in the high-tech industry. He is a member of the Spokane Angel Alliance and currently serves on three tech startup boards.

The class meets Tuesdays on Zoom from 7-8:30 p.m. You must attend at least five of the six classes. The cost for the six-week course is $975. Click here to register by Nov. 8.

Cybersecurity Workshop Series – This is a six-week course of one-hour workshops designed to help small businesses and entrepreneurs assess and mitigate cybersecurity risks in their businesses. These workshops are meant to help people understand what needs to be protected, where systems might be vulnerable and how to identify signs of an attack.

These live workshops will be held via Zoom. Participants will be provided with selected readings designed to build an understanding of key terms and concepts. They’ll also be given a digital workbook to help them apply their learning to their own business. Look for a community discussion space where everyone can share ideas with one another and ask questions. It will also be a great opportunity for participants to connect with other small business owners and entrepreneurs. Along with course topics that include assessments of assets and social engineering, workshop attendees will also be introduced to the new frontiers of artificial intelligence and security.

Scott Griffith, assistant professor of mathematics & computer science at Whitworth, will lead these workshops. He currently teaches everything from coding basics and data structures to hacking and user experience design.

All workshops are held live online on Wednesdays from 7-8 p.m. (Pacific time). The total cost is $499, or there is an option to sign up for individual workshops for $99 each. Click here to register.

Entrepreneurship Bootcamp – This is a half-day workshop offered in partnership with StartUp Spokane. This workshop is designed for anyone who has a great business idea but doesn’t know where to begin. Learn the essentials like how to get a business license, how to build a business plan using the startupspokane.com platform and how to develop a sales leads list. Through networking, participants will learn how to navigate common challenges like securing funding and scaling operations.

If you are an aspiring entrepreneur ready to take the leap and establish your own business or an innovator seeking to hone your ideas and turn them into a profitable venture, this workshop is for you.  You may also be a small business owner looking to refine your business or build a network. Everyone will come away with the tools they need.

Mark Pond is the instructor for this workshop. He has been the business research librarian for the Spokane Public Library for the past 18 years. He has worked in similar capacities for the Seattle Public Library and the University of Washington Libraries and has a business research system from A to Z.

This workshop will take place via Microsoft Teams from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. The cost is $50, with registration closing on Nov. 14. Click here to register.
