May 16, 2018
The Whitworth University Board of Trustees is honored to welcome Kevin Thompson as its newest member. Thompson was elected to the board on April 13, 2018.

Thompson has been president and chief executive officer of SolarWinds, Inc., since 2010, having previously served as chief financial officer and treasurer beginning in 2006, and as chief operating officer since 2007.

Prior to joining SolarWinds, Thompson served as chief financial officer at leading software companies Surgient, SAS Institute and Red Hat. He also spent several years as a partner with the global accounting and tax advisory firm PricewaterhouseCoopers and 10 years as a senior manager at Arthur Andersen.

Thompson recently joined the board of directors for financial automation software provider BlackLine, Inc., and he also serves on the board of the educational technology firm Instructure. He has been featured in Forbes magazine as one of America’s top CEOs.

“Kevin Thompson brings so much to his service to Whitworth,” says Whitworth President Beck A. Taylor. “First and foremost, as a parent of a soon-to-be Whitworth graduate, Kevin has seen the important and formative ways Whitworth’s mind-and-heart mission prepares students for important work and service in the world. Kevin also brings important experiences in financial management, technology, and leadership that will benefit the board and university for years to come.”

Thompson is a member of Austin Stone Community Church in Austin, Texas. His wife, Patti, is a co-director of the Austin Aquatics and Sports Academy. The couple has two children, a daughter, Megan, ’18, who is a member of the Whitworth Swim Team, and a son, Grant, who is a freshman at the University of Utah and a member of Utah’s swim team.

Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Oklahoma, where he graduated with highest honors.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private, liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of nearly 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
