Whitworth Kicks Off Spring Construction with Athletics Leadership Center

April 9, 2019
Construction crews are busy at Whitworth University this spring. Work is in full swing on the new $13 million Athletics Leadership Center (ALC).

The ALC will feature three floors of offices and auxiliary spaces. The top two floors will house the athletics department leadership team and coaches. A new football locker room, coaches’ locker rooms and several meeting rooms will be located on the bottom floor.

A construction kickoff event will be held Thursday, April 11, at 3:15 p.m. Visitors will gather in the parking lot just outside the Whitworth Fieldhouse. If media would like to attend, please call Trisha Coder at (509) 777-4703 or email tcoder@whitworth.edu at least one day before the event.

Whitworth would like to thank the many generous donors who contributed funding for the construction of the ALC. It’s expected to be completed in April 2020.

The Whitworth Aquatics Center is getting a facelift. Improvements include floor-to-ceiling windows on the north side of the facility and additional windows on the south side of the pool that will greatly enhance the natural light in the building, the resurfacing of the pool deck, and a new pool evacuator system/HVAC upgrade that will help move cooler air throughout the facility. Work on the center will wrap up this summer.

Theatregoers will be in for a treat when the curtain goes up in Cowles Memorial Auditorium in fall 2020. The theatre is getting a new main stage, curtains, lighting and motorized rigging system, as well as a new theatre shop with ramp access. The auditorium seats 1,100 people for lectures, theatre, dance, music performances and other events that take place throughout the year.

Located in Spokane, Wash., Whitworth is a private liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church. The university, which has an enrollment of more than 3,000 students, offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
