How Whitworth Communicates in the Event of Weather-Related Closures or Delays

January 13, 2020
Decisions to suspend some or all of Whitworth’s instructional program or change the regular operating schedule will be announced in the following ways:

An immediate email message to your Whitworth email account will be sent via Pirate Port as
an important notification labeled “Whitworth Advisory.”
An announcement will be posted on the Pirate Port homepage under “Important Notifications.”
Local news media broadcasts.

Our primary concern is to ensure the safety of students and employees. So, in the event of bad weather, please be sure to check these sources of information for announcements. Announcements will be posted only if there is a change in schedule. If no announcement is posted, you can assume campus is operating on regular schedule.

Decisions about day classes will normally be made no later than 6 a.m. and evening class decisions will be made no later than 3 p.m., but given the unpredictability of weather, these times are general guidelines to help you plan your time.

Your judgment and awareness of your personal situation may require a different course of action than we have chosen for the whole university, so if that is the case, please contact your instructor, department chair or supervisor about your situation.

Faculty who are unable to come to campus, even though instruction has not been suspended during the time when their courses are scheduled, will contact their students with alternative arrangements for their scheduled courses.
