Whitworth Named to The Princeton Review’s “2023 Best in the West” and “Washington Monthly’s” Top Universities Lists

September 27, 2022

Whitworth is one of the 126 best colleges in the West according to The Princeton Review. The education services company lists Whitworth in the Best in the West section of its “2023 Best Colleges: Region by Region” website feature.

The feature recognizes a total of 655 colleges that are considered “academically outstanding” in five regions: the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, West and international. The schools in each region are listed in alphabetical order by school name and are not ranked.

The Princeton Review includes profiles on each university. Researchers interviewed Whitworth students who described the university as having a “very supportive community with a positive attitude that places emphasis on Christianity in the classroom and among professors.”

The company also considered data from its survey of administrators at several hundred colleges in each region, information from staff visits to schools over the years, and the opinions of college counselors and advisors whose perspectives the company solicits.

Whitworth has also been recognized as one of the top 20 master’s universities in the nation by Washington Monthly. These rankings focus on the institution’s contribution to the public good in three categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service.

“Annual recognition from ranking organizations like The Princeton Review, Washington Monthly and U.S. News is something we appreciate, but it’s a byproduct rather than the focus of what we do,” says Greg Orwig, vice president for admissions & student financial services. “We thrive on rigorous, comprehensive education in a supportive and highly relational environment where students are challenged to ask tough questions, engage with diverse perspectives, and think hard about what they believe and why they believe it. Our students go on to do great things, and we’re grateful this is evident to the people responsible for our top rankings.”

In its Regional Universities West rankings, U.S. News ranked Whitworth No. 1 in Best Value, No. 1 in Undergraduate Teaching, No. 2 in Best Colleges for Veterans, and No. 3 in Best Universities.
