**POSTPONED**Whitworth President’s Leadership Forum on Oct. 9, with Featured Guest Speaker Former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, POSTPONED
Due to scheduling conflicts for former U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, Whitworth University’s President’s Leadership Forum is being rescheduled. We are working to secure a new date for spring 2025. Previously scheduled for Oct. 9, Cheney’s topic and presentation, “Defending Democracy: A Conversation with Liz Cheney,” will remain unchanged. All attendees will be contacted regarding their options for holding or transferring their registration to the future date.
Aside from Cheney’s postponed event, the remaining events of the university’s 2024 Election Year Speaker Series will proceed as previously scheduled.
“Defending Democracy: A Conversation with Liz Cheney” will cover topics such as leadership, diplomacy and the future of politics in America. Cheney has engaged in discussions about the importance of upholding the Constitution at a number of universities this year, including Purdue, Vanderbilt, Duke and Dartmouth.
“Given her proximity to all things Washington D.C.-related, Liz Cheney possesses an especially uncommon insider’s perspective.” Whitworth President Scott McQuilkin says. “Hers will be a very informative visit to Whitworth and to the Inland Northwest.”
Cheney served as the U.S. representative for Wyoming’s at-large congressional district from 2017-23. She chaired the House Republican Conference, the third highest position in the House Republican leadership, from 2019-21 and served as the vice chair of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. Her recent bestselling memoir, Oath and Honor, is her firsthand account of what transpired that day and her role in the investigation that followed.
During her time in Congress, she was also a member of the House Armed Services Committee, China Task Force, Natural Resources Committee and House Committee on Rules.
A specialist in national security and foreign policy, she is the co-author, along with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney, of Exceptional: Why the World Needs a Powerful America.
Cheney received a bachelor of arts degree from Colorado College and a juris doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.
In 2022, she received the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library’s prestigious Profile in Courage Award, with a commendation for her “consistent and courageous voice in defense of democracy.”
