Whitworth University Set to Make History During Commencement Weekend May 17-18

May 6, 2025

Whitworth University will mark a profound moment in its history during Commencement Weekend, May 17-18. On Saturday, we will honor the achievements of nearly 200 master’s and doctoral candidates.

This year’s celebration holds special significance as the university proudly recognizes the inaugural cohorts of our occupational and physical therapy doctoral programs. These pioneering graduates – 17 in physical therapy and six in occupational therapy – not only exemplify the university’s commitment to academic excellence and service, but also serve as trailblazers, laying a strong foundation for Whitworth’s future leaders in the healthcare profession.

The graduate commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Pine Bowl. President Scott McQuilkin will deliver the official welcome to graduates, families and guests. Scripture readings will be presented by graduating students Grant Habersetzer ’25 and Kaleigh Bauerle ’23, ’25. The commencement address, titled “For Such a Time as This,” will be delivered by Associate Professor of Psychology and Faculty President Mark Baird.

On Sunday at 10 a.m., about 500 bachelor’s degree candidates from both the traditional day program and the continuing studies program will walk across the stage in the Pine Bowl.  President Scott McQuilkin will welcome families and friends. He will then join Provost John Pell in awarding the George F. Whitworth Medal to Whitworth trustee Ken Roberts ’68. Matt Silvers, Ph.D., professor of health sciences, will give the keynote address, “If the Shoe Fits…” Student speakers include Nabi Ahmad Khan ’25 and Ava Dennis ’25.

The undergraduate ceremony is a ticketed event. Gates open at 9 a.m. If you are unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be livestreamed on the Whitworth University YouTube channel
