Whitworth Theatre Presents the Spring Main-Stage Production, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”
This Tony award-winning play, based on the novel by Mark Haddon and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher, skilled in mathematics, but ill-equipped to navigate everyday life. Although he’s never ventured beyond the end of his street and is afraid of strangers, he sets out on a journey to investigate who killed his neighbor’s dog. In solving the mystery, Christopher’s whole world is turned upside down.
The production features multimedia elements, shadow play, movement and dance to recreate the world of Christopher’s neurodivergent mind and imagination. The story examines themes of perception, identity, isolation, connection, belonging, and the tension inherent in using logic and feeling emotion.
The play is directed by guest artist Anna Newbury, a theatre and film-trained actor from Bozeman, Mont. She appeared as the lead in the 2025 film The Cunning and stars in the upcoming film The Twelvemile, now in post-production. She says the highlight of her career was the time she spent at the FSU/Asolo Conservatory portraying the role of Kayleen in Gruesome Playground Injuries.
The Curious Incident will be performed March 6, 7, 13, 14 at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m. and is recommended for audiences over the age of 13.
