Whitworth Symphony Orchestra Presents “For a Beautiful Land” April 26 at Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox
The concert features diverse works by composers Linda Robbins Coleman, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Ludwig van Beethoven. Coleman’s “For A Beautiful Land” was commissioned for Iowa’s sesquicentennial celebration and has since been performed more than 100 times and, according to Coleman, is “an expression of my love of Iowa’s spirit, essence and its beauties.” Samuel Coleridge-Taylor’s Ballade in A minor was written when the composer was only 23 years old, and its two cinematic themes reflect his youthful passion. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s iconic Symphony No. 5.
Tickets can be purchased online, by calling the theater’s box office, or at the door the night of the concert. This performance will also be livestreamed on YouTube.
