Whitworth to Celebrate the Class of 2022 in the Pine Bowl May 21-22
Graduate Ceremony: Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m.
One hundred seventy graduate students will participate in the graduate commencement ceremony. This ceremony will not be ticketed, and graduates can invite as many guests as they would like.
The processional will be led by Assistant Professor of Education Wendy Bleecker and Whitworth Board of Trustee members Jason Thackston ’92 and Ken Roberts ’68.
Provost & Executive Vice President Gregor Thuswaldner will welcome guests, and John Pell, dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, will deliver the invocation. President Scott McQuilkin will give the commencement address, “Names.”
Undergraduate Ceremony: Sunday, May 22, 2 p.m.
Six hundred forty undergraduate students will participate in this commencement ceremony, which will require tickets. Each student has been allotted seven tickets.
The processional will be led by Randall Michaelis, dean of the School of Continuing Studies & graduate admissions, and Whitworth Board of Trustee members Jason Thackston ’92 and Ken Roberts ’68. President Scott McQuilkin will welcome guests.
Professor of Education Lisa Laurier, who was voted one of the most influential professors by the Class of 2022, will give the invocation. Instructor of Mathematics Anne Trefry, also voted one of 2022’s most influential professors, will deliver the commencement address, “A Mountaintop and a Gentle Whisper.” Also receiving 2022 most influential professor awards: Mark Baird, Elizabeth Campbell, Bert Emerson, Dawn Keig, Jonathan Moo, Meredith Shimizu, Matt Silvers and David Sloan.
During the undergraduate commencement ceremony, five students will receive the President’s Cup for their exceptional academic success at Whitworth. This year’s award recipients are Ricardo (Gus) Augustine Aguilar Jr., Kasana Anderson, Caleb Crary, Madison K. Duneman and Sarah Hudson.
The Whitworth Servant Leadership Award, which honors a graduating senior who has exhibited an extraordinary commitment to serving the campus and the larger community, will also be given during the ceremony.
