Whitworth University Launches Whitworth LEARN, a Professional Development Platform
LEARN blends the flexibility of online learning with executive coaching so that participants can log in when it is convenient for them but still benefit from accountability, peer-learning and instructor guidance.
In alignment with Whitworth’s mission to provide an education of mind and heart to all learners, at all stages of their lives, the LEARN model is relational, responsive and reachable.
Courses and certificates are designed by subject matter experts who also know how to coach people toward their potential. Through carefully curated activities, questions and challenges, individuals will apply what they are learning to their own unique context.
“I designed Whitworth LEARN in response to my own disappointing experiences with professional development programs that left me wanting more,” says Brooke Kiener, dean of the School of Continuing Studies & graduate admissions. “I wanted to find a way for people at all stages of life and career to be able engage with Whitworth’s mind-and-heart mission, to be able to learn both the skill sets and mindsets that lead to success and fulfilment.”
Courses include:
• Elevate: A leadership certificate for women that gives them confidence to make value-based decisions, speak up with clarity and conviction, and lead with integrity.
• Managing People: For those in a management role. This course will teach participants “soft skills” for overseeing a team, how to navigate high-stakes conversations and how to improve employee engagement.
• Managing Innovation: A course that teaches the basics of innovation, including lean innovation methods and tools, principles for leading adaptive change, and design thinking.
• Navigating Change: A course that will guide you through evolving workplace circumstances, helping you to discover the benefits of change and build a workplace culture that embraces change.
• Flourish: Designed to be “the last health and wellness course anyone will ever need.” Participants will learn how to identify their unique strengths, build a sphere of support and set goals that will help them realize mental and emotional wellness.
• Career Compass: A career discovery program that will help people plot their course, identify possibilities and land an ideal job.
• Leading Across Difference: A course that teaches the practical skills of intergroup dynamics, effective communication across differences and intercultural competence.
All LEARN programs are non-credit-bearing, and most do not require an application. Those who finish a course or certificate will receive a digital badge that verifies the completion of the program and the skills taught. Badges can be added to personal LinkedIn profiles and digital résumés.
