Whitworth University Steps Onto the National Stage in “U.S. News & World Report” 2026-27 Rankings
While Whitworth has for decades been recognized as one of the leading regional institutions in the West, this updated designation aligns the university with a national peer group that more accurately reflects its academic character and impact.
Whitworth has consistently earned top marks in the U.S. News rankings, including No. 1 distinctions for Best Value and Undergraduate Teaching as well as repeated top 10 placements for Best Regional Universities and Best Colleges for Veterans.
“This recognition affirms what students, alumni and families have long known to be true – Whitworth is not only a regional leader in higher education, but a university whose impact and outcomes resonate on a national stage,” says Josh Hibbard, vice president for enrollment management and dean of graduate enrollment services. “For years, we have been a regional powerhouse. Now, that excellence is being recognized alongside the very best institutions in the country. What makes this especially meaningful is that we have achieved this while remaining deeply committed to our Christ-centered mission and to forming students who think deeply and lead with purpose.”
The national classification comes amid continued momentum across Whitworth, seen in student and faculty scholarship, distinctive hands-on learning and unique campus experiences that pair academic challenge with opportunities for worship, mentorship and service. From community-based partnerships in Spokane to study abroad experiences around the world, Whitworth encourages students to translate faith into action in ways that strengthen communities and promote our Christian mission.
