Whitworth University’s Polynesian Club Celebrates “Flowers of the Pacific” at Lū‘au on May 2
This year’s event celebrates the beauty and cultural significance of flowers from across the Pacific Islands. Each island group is represented through a unique floral identity that reflects its cultural values, natural beauty and traditions. Featured symbols include Hawaiʻi’s hibiscus, representing beauty, hospitality and the spirit of aloha; Samoa’s teuila (red ginger), symbolizing strength, resilience and cultural pride; and Tonga’s heilala, closely associated with royalty, honor and heritage. The showcase also highlights Micronesia’s plumeria, commonly used in leis to represent welcome, connection and island life.
Festivities will begin with dinner served in the Hixson Union Building (HUB) from 4:30-7 p.m., followed by a cultural performance in the fieldhouse from 7:30-10 p.m. Dinner will include Kalua pig, teriyaki chicken and fried rice. Enjoy beautiful music, dance and storytelling from across the Pacific all evening long.
