Provost John Pell and Endowed Professor Doreen Keller to be Installed at Fall Convocation
Pell will be officially installed during Fall Convocation on Thursday, Sept. 4, at 11 a.m. in Cowles Auditorium. He was permanently appointed to the position in April after having served in an interim capacity since May 2024.
“We are so delighted to install Dr. John Pell as Whitworth’s provost,” Whitworth President Scott McQuilkin says. “He is a highly regarded leader whose vision and commitment to academic excellence has already strengthened Whitworth in many ways. He is deeply respected by colleagues for his collaborative leadership and equally valued by students for his constant care and commitment to their success.”
Also during convocation, Doreen Keller, Ed.D., associate professor in the Graduate Studies in Education program and director of the Master in Teaching program, will be installed as the fourth recipient of the Sue Chandler Endowed Professorship in Education. Keller came to Whitworth in 2013 as a visiting professor and became a permanent faculty member two years later.
“This recognition is a testament to Professor Keller’s steadfast dedication to student achievement and her commitment to shaping the future of education through compassionate leadership,” Pell says. “I am confident that she will continue to advance the boundaries of teaching excellence and leave a profound impact on Whitworth’s future educators.”
McQuilkin will deliver the convocation address, titled “Paint Yourself into the Picture.” Professor of Communication Studies Mike Ingram will deliver the invocation.
