Whitworth Athletic Training Students to Volunteer at U.S. Figure Skating Championship Series
Whitworth’s team is led by Medical Director Dr. Ed Reisman, a former national-level figure skater. The team also assisted skaters two years ago during the series.
The series is a qualifying event for U.S. nationals. Spokane is one of eight cities hosting the competition, which is open to singles, pairs and ice dancers. Winners will advance to the 2022 Toyota U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Nashville, Tenn., in January.
Cynthia Wright, Whitworth athletic training program director and associate professor of health sciences, says she is thankful for this kind of partnership and opportunity that allows Whitworth students to get right in the middle of the action.
“We are proud to once again partner with U.S. Figure Skating to provide medical coverage for their athletes,” Wright says. “Serving on the medical team for the championship series provides our athletic training students with the rare opportunity to provide care for elite figure skaters and learn about injuries unique to this sport.”
Whitworth’s MSAT degree is an intensive, full-time professional program designed to be completed in two years. Students graduate from the athletic training master’s program with the experience and preparation to take the national Board of Certification (BOC) exam and become certified athletic trainers.
