Whitworth to Honor Veterans and Military Service Members in November
Second Annual Military/Veterans Appreciation Football Game
The Pirates will host Pacific University in a Northwest Conference football game on Nov. 6 in the Whitworth University Pine Bowl.
Saturday’s game will serve as Whitworth’s second annual Military/Veterans Appreciation Game.
Weather permitting, skydivers from Skydive West Plains will enter the stadium about 30 minutes before the noon kickoff. The Historic Flight Foundation is planning a flyover with its World War II B-25D Mitchell Bomber. Whitworth will unfurl its 80-foot American flag during the singing of the national anthem at the beginning of the game. Col. Jeffrey Marshall, vice commander, 92nd Air Refueling Wing, Fairchild Air Force Base, will perform a coining ceremony at halftime.
Anyone who is serving or has served in the United States armed forces, their family members and Gold Star families will receive free admission to the game.
Note: Per the Washington state mask mandate, all attendees at the Nov. 6 football game must be masked.
Veterans Day Ceremony:
On Nov. 11, please join the Whitworth community in honoring our veterans at a ceremony at the Whitworth Veterans Memorial (outside Cowles Auditorium) at 11:45 a.m.
The Fairchild Air Force Base Honor Guard will perform the presentation of colors.
Col. Brian Newberry(retired), chief executive officer of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho, will be the keynote speaker.
